Streams slow until they become still. Lakes disappear beneath a sheet of ice. Snow softens the forests, and sound itself seems to fade. The world pauses, inviting us to notice what movement often hides.
Beneath the frozen surface, countless air bubbles become suspended in time. Trapped between water and ice, they form delicate constellations that remain untouched until spring returns.
These fleeting patterns inspired Frostflor. Rather than capturing the ice itself, the design celebrates the quiet beauty hidden within it—a moment where stillness becomes visible.

To understand Frostflor is to appreciate one of winter’s quietest wonders.
As water gradually freezes from the surface, tiny pockets of air become trapped beneath the ice. What began as movement is gently preserved, creating delicate formations that remain suspended until spring returns. No two patterns are ever the same. Each frozen stream becomes a unique composition shaped by temperature, time and nature itself.
These hidden landscapes often go unnoticed. Yet for those who pause to look, they reveal an extraordinary beauty beneath an otherwise silent surface. Frostflor celebrates this fleeting phenomenon, transforming a quiet moment from the Nordic winter into a timeless geometric expression.

Inspired by the quiet beauty of air bubbles suspended beneath frozen Nordic streams, the design reminds us that nature often reveals its most remarkable moments only when everything slows down.
Rather than representing stillness as emptiness, Frostflor celebrates it as a state of balance. A moment where movement pauses, clarity emerges and the smallest details become visible.
Its geometry is built from circles of different scales, gathered into a harmonious whole. Each circle holds its own place within the composition, just as every quiet moment contributes to a life lived with greater intention.

From Nature to Geometry
Every Nordic SNÖ design begins far from the studio.
Ideas are collected while walking through forests, frozen streams and open Nordic landscapes. Rather than sketching products, I sketch observations—patterns in nature that reveal themselves only when we slow down enough to notice them.
For Frostflor, the inspiration came from the countless air bubbles suspended beneath clear winter ice. What first appeared random gradually revealed an unexpected sense of rhythm, balance and repetition. Nature had already created the composition; my role was simply to understand it.
The challenge was never to recreate the frozen stream. The challenge was to translate its quiet stillness into geometry.
Through countless sketches, the composition was gradually refined. Circles shifted, relationships evolved, and every element was carefully considered until the design found its natural balance. Each line and every opening was simplified until nothing felt unnecessary.
The result is intentionally restrained. Architectural in its precision. Organic in its rhythm.
The finished geometry is laser cut from carefully selected wood, allowing daylight to interact with the open spaces just as light reveals the hidden patterns beneath the ice.
What appears simple is the result of careful observation, thoughtful refinement and the removal of everything that did not belong.
