For thousands of years, before maps, satellites and compasses, one star quietly guided travellers across the Northern Hemisphere.
Unlike the stars that slowly drift across the night sky, Polaris appears almost perfectly still. Fixed above the North Pole, it became a constant point of reference for sailors crossing open seas, explorers travelling through vast landscapes and generations navigating by the stars.
In the Nordic world, where darkness shapes much of the year, this single point of light offered certainty.
Polarstjerne was born from that quiet reliability.
Not from the brightness of the star, but from the confidence of always knowing where north is.

The Polar Star is rarely the brightest star in the sky.
Its significance comes from something greater.
It stays.
While everything else appears to move, Polaris remains constant, quietly helping others find their way.
For centuries it has symbolised guidance, trust and orientation—not by demanding attention, but simply by remaining true to itself.
Polarstjerne seeks to preserve that timeless idea.

THE SYMBOL
Every Nordic SNÖ symbol carries a meaning beyond its form.
The geometry of Polarstjerne radiates outward from a calm centre, creating balance through repetition and symmetry. Each line reaches into the surrounding space while remaining connected to the core, reflecting the relationship between movement and stability.
The design speaks of direction rather than destination.
It reminds us that life’s journey becomes easier when we have something steady to navigate by—our values, our loved ones or our inner compass.
For me, Polarstjerne became a symbol of staying true to yourself, even when everything around you changes.

From Nature to Geometry
Finding order in the night sky.
Every Nordic SNÖ design begins far from the studio.
Ideas are collected while walking through forests, coastlines and open Nordic landscapes. Rather than sketching products, I sketch observations—patterns that have quietly existed long before we began to notice them.
Polarstjerne began with the remarkable simplicity of a single fixed point.
Instead of illustrating a star literally, I explored how guidance could be expressed through geometry. Countless sketches investigated rhythm, radiating forms and balanced proportions until the structure felt both calm and unmistakably directional.
Each line was refined until nothing felt unnecessary.
Laser cut from carefully selected wood, the finished geometry allows light to pass through the open spaces, creating shadows that subtly shift throughout the day while the central composition remains unchanged—just as the Polar Star appears constant while the heavens revolve around it.
