On calm summer nights, beneath an open sky, the sea occasionally begins to shimmer. With every wave, every paddle stroke and every gentle movement through the water, thousands of microscopic organisms emit a soft blue light. The ocean appears to awaken from within, glowing with a life hidden beneath the surface.
The phenomenon is known as Morild - living light.
It lasts only for a moment, appearing unexpectedly before quietly fading back into darkness.
Morild was born from this remarkable encounter.
Not from the light itself, but from the quiet sense of wonder that follows discovering something nature never promised to reveal.

Unlike the Northern Lights that dance across the sky for everyone to see, Morild exists quietly beneath the surface of the sea. It asks nothing of us except curiosity.
It reminds us that the most extraordinary experiences are often hidden in places we think we already know.
A quiet evening.
Darkness settling over the water.
A familiar shoreline.
Then suddenly, light appears where there should be none. These moments cannot be planned.
Only discovered.
Morild seeks to preserve one of them.
THE SYMBOL

Every Nordic SNÖ symbol carries a meaning beyond its form.
The geometry of Morild radiates from a calm centre before expanding into flowing, organic movements. Its rhythm echoes the invisible currents beneath the sea and the countless living organisms that briefly illuminate the water.
Rather than depicting light directly, the design celebrates discovery itself.
Morild reminds us that wonder has never disappeared from the world.
We simply have to remain curious enough to find it. For some, it becomes a symbol of curiosity. For others, of imagination, exploration or childlike fascination. Like the glowing sea itself, its meaning belongs to the person who experiences it.

From Nature to Geometry
Every Nordic SNÖ design begins far from the studio.
Ideas are collected while walking coastlines, forests and open Nordic landscapes. Rather than sketching products, I sketch observations—those quiet encounters where nature reveals patterns that often go unnoticed.
Giving form to hidden wonder.
For Morild, the inspiration came from witnessing the living light of the sea. Tiny organisms, invisible by day, suddenly revealed themselves through movement, transforming the dark water into a luminous landscape.
The challenge was never to recreate the glowing sea.
The challenge was to capture the feeling of discovering it.
Countless sketches explored movement, rhythm and radiating forms before gradually finding a calm geometric balance. Light became lines. Waves became repetition. Wonder became structure.
The finished geometry is laser cut from carefully selected wood, allowing daylight to pass through its open form and cast shifting shadows that subtly change throughout the day.
Like Morild itself, the design comes alive through light.
